Program Patron and Ambassadors

ARVL is the only veteran-specific emergency housing program in South Australia. Veterans are supported at a federal level through DVA; however, housing is a state-based matter, and veterans regularly fall between the gap as they are not recognised as a special needs group despite the unique characteristics and needs of the population.

Since 2016, ARVL has provided over 24,500 nights of accommodation to over 218 veterans experiencing homelessness. These veterans reside in the accommodation for an average of 116 days and often arrive with little or no personal belongings. As such, fully furnished accommodation is a necessity, as is assistance in obtaining basic furniture and household goods in order to access and maintain long term housing.

Taylor Cowell

Homelessness disproportionately impacts veterans within Australian communities. As a contemporary veteran, I have seen and understand the challenges defence members face during the transition into civilian life.

I am passionate about supporting our veteran community by raising awareness and fostering an inclusive ecosystem of partnerships. ARVL does just that, providing a holistic, human-centric approach to supporting ex-service personnel who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. ARVL truly makes a difference in the lives of those it helps.

Now employed as a Project Manager at Saab Australia, I previously served in the Australian Army within the Royal Australian Regiment and spent several years working in Afghanistan. My professional background encompasses government, consulting, diplomatic operations, and the defence industry.

Outside of this, I continue to advocate for and support the needs of the defence community as a Council Member of the South Australian Veterans’ Advisory Committee, Co-Chair of Saab Australia’s Veteran Advisory Council and Westpac Future Leaders scholar.
